No Rest for the Wicked is going to spend a little longer in Early Access.
Moon Studios has pushed back the highly anticipated No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 release date from October 2026 to March 2027, giving the team additional time to work on the dark fantasy action RPG before its full launch. The studio has also confirmed an open beta for December 2026, giving players an early look at some of the major features planned for the 1.0 version.
The delay will undoubtedly disappoint players who were expecting to leave Early Access this fall, but Moon Studios says the decision came after extensive playtesting. Rather than release the game while important systems and performance issues still need attention, the developer has decided to take several more months to polish the experience.
No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Release Date Is Now March 2027

Moon Studios confirmed on September 1 that No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 will launch in March 2027. The game had previously been targeting an October 2026 release after spending more than two years in Early Access.
Creative director and Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler addressed the delay in a video message, explaining that the team does not believe the game is ready to ship in its current state. The additional development time will be used to improve performance, refine major gameplay systems and polish the content being prepared for the full release.
For a game that has been shaped heavily by player feedback throughout Early Access, the decision makes sense. Moon Studios is essentially choosing a later launch over releasing a 1.0 version that still has noticeable problems.
Why Was No Rest for the Wicked Delayed?
The No Rest for the Wicked delay comes down largely to the amount of work still required before the game can make the jump from Early Access to its full release.
According to the studio, extensive playtesting revealed areas that needed more attention. Performance remains one of the priorities, while the new class system also needs additional refinement. Moon Studios is using the extra development window to test these changes, gather more feedback and make sure the various systems work together properly.
The goal isn’t simply to add more content. The studio wants the 1.0 version to feel like a polished evolution of what players have already experienced rather than an unfinished build released to meet an October deadline.
The New Class System Is One of the Major 1.0 Changes
One of the biggest additions being prepared for No Rest for the Wicked is its new class system. The feature is expected to give players more ways to shape their characters and approach the game’s combat and progression.
Because No Rest for the Wicked already combines challenging action combat with traditional RPG mechanics, the class system could have a significant impact on how different builds work. Moon Studios is therefore giving itself more time to test and balance the system before making it part of the final game.
Players will get an opportunity to experience the new system during the upcoming open beta.
No Rest for the Wicked Open Beta Starts in December 2026
The good news is that players won’t have to wait until March 2027 to see what’s coming.
Moon Studios has announced a No Rest for the Wicked open beta for December 2026. The test is expected to include the new class system and other content being developed for the 1.0 release.
The studio also plans to conduct additional closed testing before the open beta. Those tests will allow developers to identify issues and make adjustments before a much larger group of players gets access to the new build.
For fans disappointed by the delay, the December beta should provide a worthwhile preview of what Moon Studios has been working toward.
December’s Beta Could Be the Final Major Test Before 1.0
Moon Studios has indicated that the December test is intended to be the final opportunity for players to experience the game before its full launch.
That makes the open beta particularly important. Feedback from players could help the developers catch remaining technical problems, balance issues or other problems that may not appear during smaller internal or closed tests.
If everything goes according to plan, the lessons learned from the beta should feed directly into the final months of development ahead of the March 2027 launch.
No Rest for the Wicked Early Access History Explained
No Rest for the Wicked first entered PC Early Access in April 2024, following its reveal at The Game Awards in December 2023.
Developed by Moon Studios, the game combines Soulslike combat with RPG progression, exploration, crafting, dungeon crawling and settlement development. Its dark fantasy setting and demanding combat quickly helped it stand out among other action RPGs.
The Early Access period has allowed Moon Studios to expand the game while responding to feedback from its community. That approach has also meant that the road to version 1.0 has taken longer than some players initially expected.
With the latest delay, the studio is now aiming to turn that extended development period into a more complete launch experience.
Which Platforms Will No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Release On?
The No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 release is currently planned for PC and PlayStation 5 in March 2027.
Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are also in development, although Moon Studios has not announced release dates for those versions yet.
For now, PC and PS5 players have the clearest launch window, while players on Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s platforms will have to wait for further announcements from the studio.
Founders Pack Offer Has Also Been Extended
Moon Studios is also giving PC players more time to purchase the Early Access version and qualify for its Founders Pack rewards.
Players who purchase No Rest for the Wicked before January 1, 2027, will qualify for the rewards. The extension also covers players who purchase the game after the previous cutoff date.
Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 pre-orders are scheduled to begin in January 2027, ahead of the March launch.
That gives interested players another opportunity to jump into the Early Access version before the game officially reaches 1.0.
What Happens Next for No Rest for the Wicked?
The next major milestone is the December 2026 open beta. Before then, Moon Studios is expected to continue testing the new systems, improving performance and refining the content planned for the full release.
The developer is also expected to provide more information through its social channels and Wicked Inside development updates as the beta approaches.
For players who have been following No Rest for the Wicked since Early Access began, the delay means waiting a few extra months. But if Moon Studios can use that time to address the game’s remaining issues and deliver a stronger 1.0 build, the extra development period could ultimately work in the game’s favor.
Is No Rest for the Wicked Still Coming in 2027?
Yes. No Rest for the Wicked is currently scheduled to leave Early Access and launch its 1.0 version in March 2027, with PC and PlayStation 5 currently confirmed for the release window.
The December 2026 open beta should give players their first substantial look at the new 1.0 systems before launch. Until then, Moon Studios will continue working on performance, the class system and overall polish.
After more than two years in Early Access, the finish line is finally getting closer — even if it has moved a few months further away.
