Heartland Netflix: Jessica Chastain Movie Release Date, Cast, Plot & Trailer
Jessica Chastain is trading political dramas and psychological thrillers for country music, crime and a very personal rescue mission in Heartland, Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller.
The newly released Heartland trailer introduces Chastain as Misty Jones, a retired country music star who is pulled into Nashville’s darker side after her niece goes missing. What starts as a desperate search quickly develops into something much more dangerous when the case turns into a murder investigation.
The movie blends family drama, mystery, crime and revenge, with Chastain’s character taking on a role that feels closer to the determined survival instinct of Taken than a conventional music drama. The atmosphere, meanwhile, carries shades of the modern neo-Western crime stories associated with Taylor Sheridan.
Here’s everything revealed so far about Heartland, including its Netflix release date, cast, story and trailer.
Heartland Release Date: When Is Jessica Chastain’s Netflix Movie Coming Out?
Heartland will premiere on Netflix on November 13, 2026.
The movie is scheduled to arrive as part of Netflix’s November lineup, putting it among the streamer’s upcoming original films and series for the month.
The film’s soundtrack is also expected to arrive around the same time, giving audiences the opportunity to hear the country music performances featured throughout the story.
What Is Heartland About?
At the centre of Heartland is Misty Jones, a retired country music legend played by Jessica Chastain.
Misty’s life takes a dangerous turn when her niece, Charlie, disappears. Rather than waiting for authorities to uncover the truth, Misty begins investigating the disappearance herself.
Her search takes her into the darker corners of Nashville, where the case becomes increasingly complicated. What initially appears to be a missing-person investigation takes a much more serious turn when officials reveal that the case has become a murder investigation.
For Misty, there is no option of simply walking away.
The trailer makes it clear that she is determined to find her niece, even if that means confronting people who would rather keep the truth buried.
Jessica Chastain Plays Misty Jones
Jessica Chastain leads Heartland as Misty Jones, a former country music star whose personal connection to the missing-person case drives the entire story.
The role gives Chastain an opportunity to combine several elements she has explored throughout her career: emotional intensity, determination and characters who refuse to back down when confronted with powerful opposition.
But Misty isn’t presented simply as a grieving relative.
The trailer suggests that she is willing to investigate the disappearance herself and confront Nashville’s dangerous underworld. Her knowledge of the city and her determination make her increasingly difficult for those involved in the conspiracy to stop.
That is where Heartland starts to resemble a revenge thriller rather than a straightforward missing-person mystery.
Heartland Trailer: What Does It Reveal?
The Heartland trailer establishes a tense atmosphere almost immediately.
Misty learns that her niece has disappeared and understands that time is running out. Her determination becomes increasingly obvious as she begins searching for answers while the people around her try to understand how far she is prepared to go.
One of the trailer’s key moments comes when the investigation escalates into a murder case.
That shift suggests that Charlie’s disappearance is connected to something much bigger than a family tragedy. The story appears to involve secrets buried beneath Nashville’s glamorous country music culture.
The trailer also highlights the film’s balance between emotional drama and physical danger. Misty isn’t simply looking for information—she is prepared to put herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get it.
Why Heartland Feels Like “Taylor Sheridan Meets Taken”
The comparison to Taylor Sheridan and Taken comes from the movie’s combination of setting, character and revenge-driven storytelling.
Sheridan’s crime dramas often place ordinary people inside harsh environments where institutions are unreliable and personal justice becomes increasingly important. Heartland appears to use a similar approach, although its Nashville setting gives the story a distinctly musical identity.
Then there is Taken.
Like Liam Neeson’s character in the action thriller, Misty is searching for a missing family member and refuses to accept that the authorities will solve the problem quickly enough. The difference is that Heartland puts a retired female country singer in the centre of that revenge-thriller framework.
Jessica Chastain therefore isn’t playing the typical action hero.
She is playing a woman whose emotional connection to the missing person becomes the source of her determination.
Heartland Cast: Who Stars Alongside Jessica Chastain?
The Heartland cast features a mix of established actors and country music performers.
Alongside Jessica Chastain, the movie stars Garrett Hedlund, John Hawkes and Ross Lynch.
Country singer Jennifer Nettles is also part of the cast, bringing a genuine connection to the music world that forms an important part of the movie’s setting.
Musician Carter Faith makes her acting debut as Charlie Heart, the niece whose disappearance sets the story in motion.
The combination of Hollywood actors and real music performers fits the film’s Nashville setting and gives Heartland a more authentic country-music backdrop.
Carter Faith Plays the Missing Niece
Carter Faith plays Charlie Heart, the young woman whose disappearance drives Misty’s investigation.
Because Charlie is at the centre of the mystery, her role is crucial even when the character isn’t physically present throughout the story.
The trailer provides only limited information about what happened to Charlie. That lack of information is clearly intentional, with the film expected to gradually reveal the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
Her disappearance also gives Misty a personal reason to keep pushing forward when the investigation becomes dangerous.
Heartland Is Also a Country Music Story
Although Heartland is primarily being positioned as a mystery thriller, music is clearly an important part of its identity.
Misty is a former country music star, and the film’s Nashville setting places the country music industry directly alongside the crime story.
The trailer uses an atmospheric version of Hailey Whitters’ song “Heartland”, creating a moody soundtrack for the mystery.
The film will also feature original performances from its cast, including Jessica Chastain.
That gives Heartland an interesting combination of genres: it isn’t simply a crime thriller that happens to take place in Nashville. Music is built into the identity of its central character and the world surrounding her.
Who Directed Heartland?
Shana Feste serves as the writer-director of Heartland.
Her approach brings together the movie’s family drama, mystery elements and thriller framework while using Nashville and the country music world as the backdrop.
The trailer suggests a story that gradually moves from emotional family drama into a much darker crime narrative.
What Makes Heartland Different From a Typical Netflix Thriller?
The biggest difference is its protagonist.
Most missing-person thrillers tend to focus on detectives, investigators or professional action heroes. Heartland instead follows a retired country music legend who becomes personally involved in the search for her missing niece.
That gives the story an emotional foundation before the thriller elements take over.
Misty isn’t chasing the truth because it is her job. She is doing it because Charlie is family.
That personal motivation could ultimately become the strongest part of the movie.
Will Heartland Have a Soundtrack?
Yes. Music is expected to be a significant part of Heartland, both because of its Nashville setting and Misty’s history as a country music performer.
Jessica Chastain also performs on the movie’s title track, while other cast members contribute original performances.
The soundtrack is expected to accompany the film’s November 13 Netflix release.
Heartland: What to Expect From the Netflix Thriller
Based on the trailer, Heartland is shaping up as a crime mystery with family drama, revenge and country music at its centre.
The missing-person setup gives the film an immediate emotional hook, while the murder investigation introduces a darker mystery. Jessica Chastain’s Misty Jones then becomes the character connecting both sides of the story.
The film’s biggest question isn’t simply who took Charlie.
It is how far Misty is willing to go to find her.
With Jessica Chastain leading the cast, a Nashville setting and a story that mixes Taken-style rescue thriller elements with a darker neo-Western atmosphere, Heartland could be an interesting addition to Netflix’s November 2026 lineup.
Heartland Netflix Movie: Final Verdict Before Release
Heartland has several ingredients that make it worth keeping on the radar.
Jessica Chastain is playing a character far removed from the polished country star she once was. Garrett Hedlund, John Hawkes, Ross Lynch and Jennifer Nettles expand the ensemble, while Carter Faith’s performance as Charlie gives the mystery its emotional centre.
The trailer also suggests that the story will become considerably darker than its country music setting initially implies.
Whether Heartland ultimately delivers a satisfying mystery will depend on how well it handles the conspiracy surrounding Charlie’s disappearance. But the premise is straightforward enough to pull viewers in: a former country music star searches for her missing niece and finds herself fighting through Nashville’s dangerous underworld to uncover the truth.
For fans of Jessica Chastain movies, Netflix thrillers, mystery movies and revenge stories, this is one upcoming title worth watching when it arrives on November 13, 2026.
